ST. CLOUD - The St. Cloud city council has approved the preliminary tax levy budget for next year.

St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis says, because the city has seen a growth rate of about 2 1/2 percent, if the value of your property has stayed the same the city portion of your taxes will actually go down. He says a priority for next year's budget is public safety and improved roads. The city is planning on adding three new police officers next year.

The city is required to adopt a preliminary levy now. The tax levy and budget will be finalized at a public hearing on December 7th. At that time, the tax levy cannot be increased, but it could go down.
