ST. CLOUD - The St. Cloud fire department responded to an apartment fire. Battalion Chief Greg Newinski says the call came in at about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday for 3540 West St. Germain Street, in unit 112. He says they found heavy smoke in the hallways.

The tenant where the fire was located was not home, so they had to force their way in to the unit. They found a recliner chair and a side table burned. They put out the fire quickly, but there is extensive smoke damage.

The damage estimate is in excess of $75,000.

No one was hurt in the incident, but they did have to rescue a dog.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
