Sophie S. Holmberg, 92, St. Cloud

May 11, 1923 - December 13, 2015

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December, 18, 2015 at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Sophie S. Holmberg age 92 of St. Cloud who passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at the St. Cloud Hospital surrounded by her family. Reverend Scott Pogatchnik will officiate. Burial of the urn will take place at a later date.

Family and friends may call after 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the church. Arrangements are with the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud.

Sophie was born on May 11, 1923 in Virginia, Minnesota to John and Agnes (Tomczak) Roszak. She married Wilson Hall on May 11, 1946. He later passed away. She married Leonard Holmberg on October 12, 1979 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Virginia. Sophie moved to St. Cloud in 1979. She was a member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary #1172 in Eveleth.

She enjoyed bowling and volleyball in her younger years. Sophie also loved baking and having coffee with her friends and neighbors. She especially treasured all the time spent with her family.

Sophie is survived by her daughters, Marie (William) Griffin of South Elgin, Illinois, Kathy (Phil) Call of Sauk Rapids; granddaughters, Tracie Sygulla and Melissa (Joe) Simon; great-grandchildren, Tawny Johnson, Jacob Simon, Cassidy Sygulla, Katie Simon, Olive Lou Sygulla; many nieces, nephews and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; sisters, Mary and Frances; brothers, Frank, Anthony, Walter, and John.
