Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, December 4, 2014 for Sophia M. Ebnet. 94 years of age of Long Prairie at 12 o’clock noon at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church Long Prairie. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Long Prairie with Fr. Omar Guanchez officiating. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 pm, Wednesday and after 8 am Thursday at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home – Stein Chapel, Long Prairie. St. Mary’s Catholic Women will pray the rosary at 4 pm and parish prayers will be at 7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Cross and casket bearers will be grandsons, Kevin Ebnet, Nicholas Filla, Ryan, Ebnet, Jamey Ebnet, Christopher Ebnet, Zachary Ebnet and Timothy Ebnet. Honorary Pall bears are the remaining grandchildren.

Arrangements were made by Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Homes Stein Chapel.

Sophia passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014 @ CentraCare Health Care Center Long Prairie. She was born February 20, 1920 to John and Anna (Buechers) Klasen in St. Rosa, MN. She grew up on a farm near St. Rosa, MN. Sophia was the youngest of 10 children. She had 5 older sisters and 4 older brothers. Her childhood was spent helping on the family farm near St. Rosa. In her spare time she did some housekeeping for various people. Sophia first met Roman at a dance in Holdingford. They married on June 9, 1941. Sophia and Roman first lived in the Twin Cities where Roman worked and the first son of 9 children was born. After that they moved to Elk River where the 2nd son was born, then to a farm near Arban, MN and finally to a farm near Long Prairie where 2 daughters and 5 sons were born. Sophia kept herself busy during this time taking care of the home and their 9 children. She was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Council of Catholic Women. Sophia also enjoyed old time music and dancing, playing cards, visiting with relatives, crocheting, watching Twins baseball and relaxing with Roman. After they retired, they liked to travel visiting family and friends.

Sophia is survived by children, Ken (Ardis) Ebnet of Long Prairie, Mary (Jim) Burder of Kamiah, ID, Ann (Bill) Filla of Rockville, Gene Ebnet of Long Prairie, Bruce Ebnet of Long Prairie, Brian Ebnet (Lee Heckman- significant other) of Austin, TX, Mike (Amy) Ebnet of Long Prairie and Dennis (Susan) Ebnet of Long Prairie. Her nieces and nephew who were raised as siblings, Rica Korte, Caroline Bielejeski, Esther Buening, and Julius Korte. 22 grandchildren; Tom’s children - Kathryn, Ted, Pat, Paula, Mary Beth, Ben, Barb, Rose, Andrea and Joan; Ken’s children – Linda, Kevin and Teresa; Mary’s daughter Melissa; Ann’s children Kelly, Nicholas and Becky; Gene’s children Ryan and Jamey; Mike’s son Timothy; Dennis’ children Christopher and Zachary and 35 great –grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband, Roman, son Tom, grandson John and daughter-in-law Sharon, her parents, 5 sisters- Adelaide Korte, Bertha Kerfeld, Anne Nardinger, Amanda Klaphake, Catherine Buening, and 4 brothers – Ben, Lawrence, Hubert and Anthony and niece Alice Kerfeld and cousin Rose Hoppe both raised as sisters.
