COLLEGEVILLE -- The #18 Johnnies forced five turnovers higher-ranked #10/12 Bethel Royals in a 31-8 victory on Saturday afternoon.

St. John's defense was able to turnover a Bethel team that has only committed 10 turnovers in the previous eight games combined.

Bethel quarterback Erik Peterson threw interceptions to defensive tackle Ben Rossini and safety Randy Perez and fumbled twice.

For the game, the Johnnies held Bethel to 2-of-11 on third down and the defense completely stifled the Royals.

Quarterback Nick Martin led the Johnnies to two first half scores, with touchdown tosses to J.T. Ford and Dan Harrington.

St. John's running back Sam Sura continued his impressive season with 119 yards on the ground and two touchdowns.

Heading into next week's game, Sura (1,469 yards) is seven yards away from breaking the school record for rushing yards in a season that has stood since 1976.

With the win, the Johnnies improve to 8-1 on the season (6-1 in the MIAC) heading into the final regular season game of 2014 at St. Olaf (1-8) next Saturday.
