ST. JOSEPH -- The Sisters of the Order of Saint Benedict will elect a new leader this weekend. The new prioress is being chosen during their chapter meeting, and will be announced on Sunday.

The prioress is the spiritual leader of the monastic community and also acts as the president of the non-profit organization.

Unlike the men of St. John's Abbey, the Sisters of Saint Benedict's Monastery elect a prioress for a designated period of time.  The current policy is to elect a prioress for one term of six years, without the possibility of re-election to consecutive terms.

The Sister who is elected will become the 16th prioress on June 5th.  The outgoing prioress is Sister Nancy Bauer.
