The 11th ranked St. John's basketball team won their 12th game in a row Saturday afternoon 87-60 over visiting St. Olaf. The St. Ben's basketball team won their 3rd game in a row 78-52 over St. Olaf Saturday.
#1 SCSU Gets Weekend Split with #5 UMD
The top ranked St. Cloud State men's hockey team topped Minnesota-Duluth 4-2 Saturday night to earn a split in the weekend series in Duluth. The Huskies scored 4 unanswered goals after falling behind 2-0 in the 1st period.
SCSU Basketball Teams Top Mary
The St. Cloud State men's and women's basketball teams were both winners Saturday against visiting the University of Mary. The women beat Mary 83-70 before the men edged Mary 60-58.
Timberwolves Too Much For Pelicans
The Timberwolves defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 110-106 at home Saturday night. Karl-Anthony Towns went off for 27 points and 27 rebounds, Andrew Wiggins added 18 points and Josh Okogie chipped in 17 points for the Wolves.
Gopher MBB Routs Rutgers
The Gopher men's basketball team used a dominating 2nd half from junior Amir Coffey and beat Rutgers 88-70 at home Saturday. Coffey scored 22 of his 29 points in the 2nd half to lead Minnesota. The Gophers led by 7 at halftime.
#5 UMD Tops #1 SCSU
The 5th ranked UMD Bulldogs downed the top ranked St. Cloud State Huskies Friday night 3-1 in Duluth to open the weekend series. UMD led 1-0 after 1 period before SCSU tied the game at 1 in the 2nd period. Duluth scored twice in the 3rd period to pick up the win.
Mavericks Edge Timberwolves
The Timberwolves lost 119-115 Friday night to the visiting Dallas Mavericks. Minnesota trailed by 11 at halftime but rallied in the 2nd half including outscoring the Mavs by 4 points in the 3rd quarter and by 3 in the 4th.
Local Sports Schedule 1-12-19
The 11th ranked St. John's basketball team put their 11-game win streak on the line when they host St. Olaf Saturday at 3pm. The Johnnnies are 12-1 overall and haven't lost a game since November 16 when they lost to UW-Whitewater.
Prep Basketball Results; 1-10-19
Cathedral boys basketball improved to 8-4 overall after posting an 89-76 home win over Milaca Thursday night. Cathedral was led by seniors Jackson Jangula with 24 points and Nick Schaefer with 19 points.
Bennies Win 2nd Second
St. Ben's basketball won their 2nd straight Wednesday night 63-56 over Gustavus. St. Ben's led 30-19 at halftime and held on in the 2nd half. The Bennies were led in scoring by Megan Thompson with 15 points and Maddie Schmitz added 13 points.
Vikings Bringing Back Stefanski as OC
The Vikings are bringing back Offensive Coordinator Kevin Stefanski. The longtime Vikings assistant coach was promoted to interim Offensive Coordinator prior to Week 15 to replace John DeFilippo. Stefanski's time in Minnesota pre-dates head coach Mike Zimmer.
Egypt Sunken Cities in Minneapolis [PODCAST]
An exhibit called "Egypt Sunken Cities" is currently on display through April 14 at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. I talked with exhibit curator Jan Lodewijk-Grootaers on WJON today. He says the objects were discovered in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Egypt and are on tour.
