Above-average autumn rainfall and a very snowy winter has prompted Sherburne County to prepare for spring flooding.

Sherburne County Sheriff Joel Brott says the warm, snow-melting weather we've had in the last few days should remind people to prepare for flood water. Homeowners in flood-prone areas should make sure they have flood insurance at least 30 days old.

As a precaution, Sherburne County will make sandbags available to residents for 29 cents a piece. You can find them at both of the Sherburne County Public Works Buildings in Elk River and Becker between 8 am and 3:30 pm.

And, in the event that you need sandbags after hours, call the Sherburne county Sheriff's office at 1-800-433-5245.
