ST. CLOUD - The railroad crossing in Sherburne County where a dump truck was hit by a train earlier this week is scheduled for an upgrade.

Minnesota Department of Transportation spokesman J.P. Gillach says active warnings gates and signals at the 32nd Street Southeast crossing were actually approved three years ago. However, it's been delayed since 2014 due to a lack of funding. It was partially funded, but not fully funded, until now. It is scheduled for construction either this year or next.

The BNSF Railway will be in charge of installing the new stop arm with signals and lights.

In addition, another project in Haven Township is also now fully funded and is scheduled for construction on the same timeline. That project will install a stop arm and flashing signal lights at 52nd Street southeast near Clear Lake.
