MANKATO (AP) - Shareholders of the Blue Earth County Fair Association have voted to move the event from Garden City to the edge of Mankato.

The vote happened Thursday night, with 175 people favoring the sale of the current fairgrounds and 76 people against it.

If feasibility studies show that a move makes sense, the fair could be in its new location as soon as 2015.

The move is contingent on the daunting task of building a new fairgrounds from scratch, which could cost millions of dollars.

The issue has been met with opposition. But supporters say the fair will die if it is not moved closer to the people.
