SHAKOPEE (AP) - A former Sauk Rapids-Rice High School teacher is charged with soliciting sex from a boy he met at a theater group.

Thirty-four-year-old Andrew Hasty, is charged with three felonies after police say he asked a 15-year-old boy to send him photos of his genitals.

Authorities say the two met at the Chaska Valley Family Theater drama group. Hasty has resigned from Shakopee Public Schools where he was most recently working.

Hasty worked as a choir teacher for Sauk Rapids Rice from 2006 to 2013.

Sauk Rapids-Rice superintendent Dan Bittman says allegations were brought against him in 2013. The district hired an outside investigator and immediately removed him from the school on administrative leave. Hasty resigned from the district before the investigation was complete.

The district was also in contact with law enforcement and the Minnesota Board of Teaching when the allegations surfaced.

Bittman wasn't able to comment on what the specific allegations were against Hasty during his time in the district. He says the district has strong hiring practices in place with reference and background checks that happen before teachers are hired.

"We take allegations like this seriously and the safety of our children remains our top priority," Bittman says.

Investigators say there's no evidence other juveniles were solicited. Hasty is being held in the Carver County Jail. It was not immediately clear if Hasty has a defense attorney.
