SHAFER (AP) — A Schafer man has died from injuries suffered in a snowmobile accident in Chisago County of east-central Minnesota.

The sheriff's office says 63-year-old Dennis Holt was operating a snowmobile he was unfamiliar with when the machine suddenly accelerated and hit a trailer parked near his driveway around 11:30 a.m. Sunday. He died at the scene.

Investigators say the machine hand a left-handed throttle, which appeared to be a contributing factor. Most snowmobiles have the brake lever on the left handlebar and the throttle on the right.

In a separate snowmobile accident in Rockville in central Minnesota, the Stearns County sheriff's office says a 4-year-old Milaca girl was injured around 4 p.m. Saturday. An adult was giving the girl a ride when the driver lost control and crashed into a fence.
