ST. CLOUD -- A line of severe thunderstorms pushed through central Minnesota Sunday night prompting dozens of warnings.

The storm activity fired up to the west and northwest of Alexandria in the 6:00 p.m. hour. The storms prompted the National Weather Service to issue nearly a dozen tornado warnings including four in Douglas County and three in Todd County. There were no tornado warnings issued for Stearns, Benton or Sherburne Counties.

The storm system did include 29 severe thunderstorm warnings in central Minnesota throughout the evening hours.

Stearns County Emergency Management Director Erin Hausauer reported small trees down, various localized power outages and hail between an inch and an inch-and-a-quarter across the county.

Wind speeds approached 70-miles-per-hour in some communities including a 68 mile-per-hour reading in Sauk Centre and a 65 mile-per-hour reading just north of St. Cloud.

National Weather Service meteorologist Rick Hiltbrand says wind gusts reached 80 mph in Douglas and Morrison counties.

According to Hiltbrand, trees were down in the Brainerd area, and a barn was knocked down in northern Todd County. The storms damaged the stands at Brainerd International Raceway and left a section in a pile of twisted metal.

Forecasters say at least four unconfirmed tornadoes may have touched down in western Minnesota when strong storms moved through the state.  The four unconfirmed tornadoes were in Grant, Wilkin and Otter Tail counties.

The unofficial rainfall total in southeast St. Cloud from the storm was over two inches. The National Weather Service says Foley recorded 2.67 inches of rain.
