MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Skies turned dark and the rain came down in torrents as severe storms rumbled across eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

The storms sparked numerous severe thunderstorm warnings and some tornado warnings as they advanced from south to north Sunday, though no confirmed touchdowns.

There were scattered reports of power outages, downed lines and tree damage across the region as far east as Madison, Wis.

The National Weather Service says winds gusted as high as 60 mph in Rochester, Minn., and Elko, Minn., and 58 mph near River Falls, Wis., and Dunn, Wis. Street flooding was reported in Chanhassen, Minn., and Waseca, Minn. Power poles were bent at 45-degree angles by high winds near Blooming Prairie, Minn.

The rain prompted a three-hour interruption of the Twins-Red Sox game at Target Field.
