ST. CLOUD - The St. Cloud Technical and Community College is receiving a grant to help train local workers.

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development has awarded the SCTCC a $300,000 grant. The grant is under the Minnesota Job Skills Partnership with the Columbia Gear Corporation in Avon.

Columbia Gear will partner with the school to train 175 employees for their expanding business. John Hart is the business and industry training director at SCTCC, he says the program will train the employees that Columbia Gear needs.

"Their company is expanding and they need more people, this program will help them train needed employees and will also add to their customer base,"  Hart says.

Courses offered at the college will train employess on sales, machining, technology, manufacturing and more.

The Minnesota Job Skills Partnership works with businesses and educational institutions to train or retrain workers, expand work opportunities and keep jobs in Minnesota.
