SCSU’s Smith Is NSIC Player Of The Year

St. Cloud State third baseman Jordan Smith was selected as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference baseball player of the year Monday.  He led the league with a .477 batting average with 7 homeruns and 92 total bases.  Smith was also named first team all conference.  The following Huskies were named 2nd team all conference:  Junior pitcher Logan Birr, sophomore pitcher Scott Leiser, relief pitcher Ryan Schwenke, first baseman Joey Benke, shortstop Travis Cariveau and outfielder Phil Imholte.  Smith and outfielder Brian Hansen were named as NSIC gold glove winners.  SCSU is 38-8 this season and will open play in the NSIC tournament in Mankato at Franklin Rogers Park at noon today against Augustana.  The tournament is double elimination.
