ST. CLOUD -- St. Cloud State University President, Earl Potter said strengthening international efforts is imperative for preparing students for life and work in a global community.

He addressed a crowd of faculty and staff during his spring convocation this (Thursday) morning.

Potter highlighted examples of SCSU student's international success.

1990 SCSU graduate, Heidi Macpherson studied abroad and returned to the United Kingdom after graduation. She became a dual national and now has a doctorate from the University of Newcastle.

Potter says one thing he learned from his own international travels is that Minnesota is an international community.

Potter has been to China, India, Nepal, Chile, South Africa and other countries to both initiate and strengthen partnerships with the University's international programs.

Right now SCSU has 35 students and six faculty studying abroad in Laos, Thailand and Malaysia. The university expects more than 1,000 international students to attend the university this semester.
