ST. CLOUD -- Veterans, students and the St. Cloud community are invited to a picnic at Lake George tomorrow (Saturday).

The St. Cloud State University Student Veterans Organization is hosting its 2nd annual Veterans Community Picnic.

SCSU Student Veterans Organization member, Jim Huston says the event is a way for the community to show support for those who have served for our country and are pursuing a higher education.

"We want to reach out to the community as a whole, we want to let the community know that there's a bunch of veterans coming out, getting a higher education after their service or possibly while they are in the service."

Huston says the goal of the event is to help veterans be successful in college. All proceeds from the event go to benefit the St. Cloud State University Emergency Relief Fund.

"We use that [the fund] to help any student veteran, for what ever reason. Sometimes they come to us and say they need to go to work full-time because of that they need to drop their education and they need the financial assistance to keep going through school."

The picnic is from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. The event includes activities for kids, drawings, raffles and dinner. Dinner costs $5 per person and veterans eat for free with an ID.
