ST. CLOUD - SCSU women's hockey team (7-17-3, 5-14-2 WCHA) fought hard for 3 periods against the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers (18-5-3, 14-4-3 WCHA), but lost 2-1 on a 3rd period goal.

The Gophers, ranked fourth in the country, out shot the Huskies 24-13. The difference in the game was a short handed goal by the Gophers.

Senior Payge Pena scored her fourth goal of the season and now has a career high 12 points on the season.

Next up is the second game of the weekend double header against the Gophers. Puck drop is 3:07 p.m. at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
