SCPD Warns Residents About Phone Scam

ST. CLOUD -- The St. Cloud Police Department is reporting that local residents have received suspicious phone calls that are consistent with a nationwide phone scam.

Police say the scam involves a person claiming that they are calling on behalf of the IRS to collect immediate payment from a credit card.

You are urged to hang up if you experience similar calls and contact the police.

At this time, no one have reported turning in any money or credit card numbers to the scam.

Also, be reminded that the IRS always uses the mail system - and never the phone - when dealing with payment.
