SAUK RAPIDS - A Sauk Rapids-Rice High School science teacher is a candidate for Minnesota Teacher of the Year.

John Lelwica teaches anatomy, physiology and 10th grade biology and has been with the school since 2000.

Sauk Rapids-Rice principal Erich Martens says Lelwica is an outstanding and student centered teacher that deserves the recognition.

This year's program will name the 51st Minnesota Teacher of the Year.

Candidates include pre-kindergarten through 12th grade teachers, from public or private schools. The winner will be announced on May 3rd, at the Radisson Blu Mall of America in Bloomington.
