ST. CLOUD - Sauk Rapids-Rice superintendent Dan Bittman will be in attendance during President Obama's State of the Union Address on Tuesday night.

Bittman was invited by Representative Tom Emmer for being Minnesota's 2016 superintendent of the year.

"I'm really humbled and really fortunate to represent Sauk Rapids-Rice. I so appreciate congressman Emmer's invitation and look forward to taking it all in and just being a part of history," Bittman says.

Bittman says he's looking forward to taking in the experience and learning all he can during his trip.

"I'm looking forward to learning with and from so many people around me. One of the things we will do tomorrow morning is Skype one of our elementary schools from the White House, so we're looking forward to that as well."

The Minnesota Association of School Administrators named Bittman as the 2016 Minnesota superintendent of the year in November.

Nominees for the award are evaluated on leadership, communication, professionalism and community involvement.

Bittman has served as superintendent of Sauk Rapids-Rice schools since 2010. The district serves 4,300 students while employing nearly 600 staff.
