SAUK RAPIDS -- The Sauk Rapids Police Department is looking to add another officer to its force and is currently in the process of accepting applications.

The city council approved the process of hiring an additional officer earlier this month. The hiring would bring the total number of officers in the police department to 15.

Police Chief Perry Beise says they completed a staffing study last spring and found that they were short-staffed.

"Right now, our current officers are [overworked]," Beise says. "In order to give the community better investigations and just do the job better, we need to add some staff."

"We had a large influx of growth in this city over the past several years and after looking at the numbers, it's just time to add another body."

Beise says the new position would be for the afternoon shift on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and every other weekend.

The Sauk Rapids Police Department is accepting applications until March 28th. Beise says they hope to have the position filled by the end of May.

"I'm looking for someone who will treat the citizens well, has a great work ethic, and is somebody who wants to live and work in central Minnesota."
