SAUK RAPIDS - Sauk Rapids is the latest community to lower their building fees, in an effort to increase new home construction.

The city council unanimously approved a plan this (Monday) evening to cut the sewer and water assessment and park fees in half from a total of $6,100 down to $3050.

Community Development Director Todd Schultz says the reduced fees are only in effect for this year.  He says they'll look at the numbers for new single family home construction at the end of the year and see if it had an impact.

The St. Cloud city council first voted to reduce building fees for new home construction last summer, and then voted to extend the lower fees earlier this year.
