SAUK RAPIDS - The Sauk Rapids City Council could finalize their plan to go to a single hauler garbage collection during their meeting tonight (Monday).

The Public Works committee is recommending a single-hauler system with the contract going to Allied Waste Services.  Their rates would be: $12.08 a month for a 30 gallon container, $13.18 a month for a 60 gallon container, and $14.27 a month for a 90 gallon container.  Allied Waste already serves the largest number of Sauk Rapids residents.

They also say they would be able to collect the city's trash in one day each week.

The Public Works committee is also recommending the hauler handle the billing of their customers, instead of having it done by the city.

Three other haulers have submitted proposals: Advanced Disposal Services, Waste Management, and West Central Sanitation.

The council voted last year to look into a city-organized garbage collection system, due to the wear and tear on the city streets.
