SAUK RAPIDS - It took nearly five years, but Sauk Rapids is finally getting it's own disc golf course.

The city council voted 3-2 on Monday night to approve a new 18 hole course at Mayhew Creek Park, adjacent to the Sauk Rapids-Rice high school.
The process for the course began back in 2007, and after getting tabled and pushed back several times over the years, the council finally took action.
The two members who voted against the course were Bill Bard who questioned if there had been enough public input, and Paul Weber who is an avid disc golf player but questioned if the course would get enough use.  St. Cloud, Sartell, Waite Park, and St. Joseph already have disc golf courses.
The initial cost to built the course is about $13,000.  The city still needs to work out a set budget for upkeep as well.  City officials hope to start working on the initial phases of the project yet this fall.
