SAUK RAPIDS - The Sauk Rapids city council will get an update Monday on the plan to build a field house in the city. The Sauk Rapids Community Center Advocate Group will give a presentation.

Preliminary designs for the "Storm Field House Athletic Community Center" include four basketball courts, with a running track around them. There would also be a kitchen area, and locker rooms. There's also options for future expansions with more basketball courts, a weight room, and a climbing wall.

The estimated cost for the nearly 60,000 square foot facility is about $6.7 million. Construction would be paid for with half-cent sales tax dollars. In 2014 Sauk Rapids voters approved funding the project by a 71 to 29 percent margin.

While the city would pay to build it, they're looking a a partnership with the school district to pay for operational costs and to run it. The group is also seeking community groups to help fund it.

Details like where it would be built, and a timeline for construction, still need to be worked out.
