SARTELL -- The City of Sartell will soon be joining St. Cloud as a member of the regional Human Rights program.

The city council approved the measure on a 3 to 2 vote Monday night. The decision will come at no cost to Sartell.

Council Member Sarah Jane Nicoll objected to the decision by saying it's "not in the best interest of Sartell to join." She says the program is providing duplicate serves already offered by the State of Minnesota.

Council Member Steve Hennes disagreed by saying "it's worth giving it a shot." Council Member David Peterson joined Nicoll in voting against the measure, while Council Member Amy Braig-Lindstrom and Mayor Joe Perske voted in favor.

The agreement states Sartell will join St. Cloud for a 30 month period, ending December 31st, 2015.

Meanwhile, the Sauk Rapids city council also discussed the issue at their meeting last (Monday) night, but they did not take any action.

The council sent the issue of joining the Regional Human Rights Office to their Personnel and Finance Committee, which will review it and make a recommendation at a future city council meeting.
