SARTELL -- Sartell residents may see work crews in their neighborhoods today as they test the sewer mains for cracks and deficiencies.

The workers are using a specially designed smoke to send through the pipes. That smoke will reveal the problem areas.

Sartell officials say residents who have defective or improperly installed sewer pipes may see smoke enter their home or place of business. The smoke has a distinctive, but not unpleasant odor and should dissipate shortly. However, you should then contact a worker in your area to help determine the origin.

Cracks and improperly installed sewer pipes can cause dangerous gases to back up into your home or workplace.

The testing is being conducted until 4:00 p.m. today.
