SARTELL -- A 17-million dollar grant has been awarded to 35 cities throughout Minnesota.

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) awarded funding under its Small Cities Development Program.

The city of Sartell will receive $395,000 dollars in grant money.

Seth Kauffman is the Program Manager for  Central Minnesota Housing Partnership Inc. He says the grant will be split between two properties in Sartell.

The money provides help to upgrade housing for low-to moderate-income residents, public infrastructure projects and projects that help address a community need.

Kauffman says they should begin construction on the properties around August.

The Small Cities Development Program makes grants available to cities with populations under 50,000 people and counties under 200,000 people.

DEED is the state's principal economic development agency.
