SARTELL -- The work load has increased at the Sartell Police Department over the last few months.

The department currently has two vacancies of their 17 staffed department.

Sartell Police Chief Jim Hughes says officers have been putting in extra work to cover the vacant patrol officer positions.

Hughes says they began the process of hiring one officer back in December but now need another with the passing of Officer Schmitz.

The vacancies will be on the consent agenda at the Sartell city council meeting this evening (Monday) and should be approved.

Hughes hopes to have both positions filled by May.
