ST. CLOUD -- A Sartell man has been sentenced to 12 years and nine months in prison on several criminal charges, some of which are related to domestic abuse.

Darnell Lewis had pleaded guilty in February to charges from several open court files. The 23-year-old has pleaded guilty to second degree assault involving a gun, felony domestic assault, kidnapping, felony Order For Protection violation and three felony Domestic Abuse - No Contact Order violations.

WJON News reported an incident from September of last year when Lewis pushed his girlfriend out of a vehicle when she tried to break up with him. Court records show he later drank alcohol, continued to beat her, stepped on her neck, and eventually raped her.

Lewis had since been charged with additional counts from November 2015, December 2015 and February 2016.

Lewis has three previous domestic assault convictions prior to this string of charges.
