SARTELL -- Pickleball games may soon be played in one Sartell park.

The city is looking at converting the tennis courts at Val Smith park into six pickleball courts.

City Engineer Mike Nielson says the courts lack of use ultimately led them to look at pickleball.

It will cost about $90,000 to repave and stripe the tennis courts and re-coat and surface the basketball courts, which are also in the park.

Funding will be spread out from several city accounts. $62,000 will come from the Park District 6 fund, $10,000 from the Regional Park fund, $9,000 from General Park funds, and $9,000 from beautification funds.

With the council's approval this (Monday) evening, staff will begin collecting bids on the project, which will be brought for approval at a future meeting.
