SARTELL - The Sartell School district has approved a proposal for a Minnesota State Clay Target League team for its students.

Superintendent Jeff Schwiebert says students in the group will be able to practice in their free time at local shooting ranges. Students will then take part in the Minnesota High School League state tournament.

Schwiebert says students will pay for most of their equipment and costs, meaning the district wont have to budget money for the club.

Over 150 students in the district recently said in a survey that they want to have a Clay Target team in Sartell.

The Minnesota State High School Clay Target League has recently exploded in popularity. Last spring, over 6,000 students around the state participated in the Minnesota Clay Target League.

Skeet shooting and trap shooting competitions are both offered in the state league.
