SARTELL -- The city of Sartell is buying land adjacent to its newest park for future expansion plans.

The city council voted 4-1 to buy 38 acres of land north of Pinecone Regional Park.

Interim City Administrator Mary Degiovanni says the city will pay just under $209,000 for the Bernice Villcheck property. She says it's tax valuation is listed at $550,000. Degiovanni says the property had been listed for sale at just under $230,000 but the owners approached the city and offered it for sale at the lower price.

The city council must decide how to pay for the land, but Degiovanni says they have park dedication dollars and half-cent sales tax money that can be used.

Sartell officials are buying the land for future expansion and haven't made any decisions on its use.

The closing date will be no later than September 30th.
