SARTELL -- Tennis shoes, sandles, snow boots and everything in between are being collected by the Central Minnesota Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Through a partnership with Wells Fargo Bank, the Boy Scouts have a goal to collect 25,000 pairs of shoes by April 16 to help those in need around the world.

Sartell Boy Scouts Administration Assistant, Mary Herlick says all the shoes collected will go to Soles4Souls, an international anti-poverty organization that works to refurbish and distribute all the donated shoes.

Herlick says this is the first time the Boy Scouts have been involved with the Soles4Souls initiative.

"We've been involved only for a few months, it's a project we started talking about last september and decided we were going to do this in the spring." --Herlick

The Boy Scouts have been collecting shoes since March 1 and so far they've collected nearly 2,000 pairs.

Herlick says any shoe donations are welcome as long as they are in good condition.

"Most of the shoes will go to children, but even teenage boys have man size feet so we are collecting every size and type as long as they aren't too worn." --Herlick

Shoes can be arranged to be picked up from your home or can be dropped off at the Sartell Boy Scout Service Center --1191 Scout Drive.
