SARTELL -- A private group made up of community members has raised about $1.3-million to complete a total of seven new baseball fields in Sartell's Pinecone Central Park.

Sartell Mayor Joe Perske says the city council has approved plans to move ahead with completing those fields and also to spend $790-thousand in city money to add multi-purpose fields for soccer and LaCrosse.

Perske says these new fields should help keep Sartell kids from going outside the community to participate.  He says it also should help attract other teams and tournaments.

The baseball and multi-purpose fields will be a combination of youth, intermediate and adult size facilities. It will be maintained through user fees and concession sales.

The baseball fields could be open for play as soon as next spring with the soccer fields opening in 2014.
