COLD SPRING -- A $7-million affordable housing project in Cold Spring has been pulled.

During tonight's (Tuesday) city council meeting Mayor Bob Thelen says Sand Companies have withdrawn their proposal of building a 32-unit housing project on tax-forfeited land in the Blue Heron Heights neighborhood.

Earlier this month, the council voted in a 2-2 stalemate on the project and ask Sand Companies to provide and alternative plan.

Residents have voiced their concerns with the project including increased traffic, and decreased value of surrounding properties.

While the project is not moving forward the council has stated the city needs more housing and would like to see several vacant lots used for projects similar to this.

Representatives of Sand Companies were not in attendance.
