ST. CLOUD -- Local Girl Scouts from Mary Of Lords in Little Falls donated around 5,000 items to the St. Cloud Area Salvation Army today (Wednesday).

The fourth and fifth graders filled a van and SUV with items such as clothes, food, blankets and toiletries which they unloaded at the Salvation Army.

The seven girls are working towards their Leadership Award also known as Bronze Award. As part of their project they wanted to help out the homeless community.

Girl Scout leader, Tammy Filippi says it was an eye opening experience for the girls to learn that anyone can be homeless.

Fifth grade girl scout, Ava Filippi says prior to the project she believed the common stereotypes of homeless people.

Each girl has put in about 30 hours of time collecting donations and spreading awareness of homelessness in Central Minnesota.

They find out if their efforts will qualify them for the Bronze Award in the coming weeks.
