Rubio Hurt In Wolves Loss
ORLANDO, FL -- The Timberwolves experienced the proverbial adding of insult to injury, losing to the Orlando Magic in overtime after point guard Ricky Rubio left the game with a sprained ankle.
Rubio landed awkwardly after a drive to the basket late in the first half and had to be helped off the court.
X-rays on the ankle came back negative, but Rubio will be reevaluated today in Miami.
The injury comes just days after Rubio signed a four-year $55 million contract extension.
Veteran point guard Mo Williams and rookie Zach LaVine are expected to handle the most duty in Rubio's absence.
Williams struggled in last night's game, finishing 1-of-7 from the field for four points.
Kevin Martin did his best to carry the Wolves - scoring 21 points, but Minnesota was unable to stop the young Magic, allowing six Orlando players score in the double digits.
With the loss, Minnesota drops to 2-3 on the season and will take on Dwyane Wade and the Heat (3-2) tonight in Miami.
