Roger was born May 20, 1953, in Roseville, Minnesota to Eugene and Margaret (Petro) Salay. He grew up in Roseville, attended Ramsey High School and received a BS degree in Business from the University of Minnesota in 1978. Roger married Patricia McLaughlin on September 24, 1982 in St. Paul, MN. The couple made their home in White Bear Lake where Roger worked as a sales representative for Leeway and Mclean Trucking firms. In 1984, Roger accepted a job with Yellow Freight Systems and they moved to St. Cloud where their two sons, Nicholas and Daniel, were born.

Roger's career continued at Yellow Freight System until 2003 when he was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's Disease, a disease that Roger accepted with great grace and dignity, never allowing the disease to hinder him in life. Roger was known for his quick wit, talkative spirit, and sense of humor, strong faith, and gentle heart. His greatest joys were his family, walking with Patty and watching Nick and Dan grow into the wonderful young men they are now.

Roger is survived by his wife, Patricia of St. Cloud, sons Nicholas (Johanna Zabawa) of Peoria, Illinois, and Daniel of Rochester. Extended family: brother Gene (Christina), sister Marilyn, both of Roseville, sisters and brothers-in-law Barbara McLaughlin-Lasser (Robert), Michael (Dawn), Catherine, Terrance (Nicole Kveton), Carol, David (Amber) of St. Paul, and many nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Michael McLaughlin, mothers-in-law Judy McLaughlin, Betty McLaughlin, brothers-in-law John McLaughlin, William McLaughlin, and sister-in law Kathleen McLaughlin.

Many thanks are given to Lakeview Ranch, Dassel, for all the support, care, and love that Roger and his family received during his last year of life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Cloud Cathedral High School or Lakeview Ranch, Dassel MN.
