ROCHESTER (AP) - A Rochester police officer who helped respond to a reported domestic assault in southeastern Minnesota ended up shooting and killing the male suspect.

Fillmore County Sheriff Tom Kaase says the incident happened Sunday at the man's rural home, when the armed man allegedly failed to cooperate with deputies. An officer with the Rochester Police Department's tactical unit shot and killed the suspect.

Authorities did not immediately identify either the man or the officer.

The sheriff's office has requested the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigate the shooting. That's normal procedure.
