CHANHASSEN  (AP) - Amid a mild winter that's sparing Minnesota the need to spread as much road salt as it often does, experts and officials will be gathering in Chaska to learn about ways to reduce the impact of salt pollution.

The Freshwater Society is holding its 11th Annual Road Salt Symposium at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum on Thursday. The group says it stages the annual conference to increase awareness of the harmful effects of chlorides in road salt and to offer solutions to mitigate this pollution.

This year's event emphasizes solutions for everyone - from homeowners to city managers to building owners to transportation departments.
