Rita Marie Zumwalde, 94, Richmond

February 14, 1923 – December 22, 2017

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Rita Zumwalde, age 94, who died Friday at Hilltop Care Center in Watkins. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday December 26, 2017 at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond. The Christian Women will pray a rosary at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m., Wednesday morning at the funeral home.

Rita was born in St. Cloud to Peter J. II and Susan (Schulte) Ganzer. She married Marcus Zumwalde on February 17, 1944. Rita was a homemaker while raising her children, and as her children grew she found her calling as a librarian. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, cemetery committee, Christian Women, Richmond Centennial committee, board member of the Great River Regional Library, and she served as an election judge for many years.

Survivors include her children, Thomas (Luann) Zumwalde, Becky (Jim) Gates, Susan (John) Backes; 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren..

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max (2005); siblings, Mildred Busch, Beatrice Trotter, Peter Ganzer III.
