Rice Man Arrested for Deer Theft
MILLWOOD TOWNSHIP -- It's your not your typical burglary...a Rice man has been arrested for stealing another hunter's deer.
The Stearns County Sheriff's Office received a report of a deer carcass which had been cut down from a tree and stolen.
A group of hunters had several deer hanging from a tree in northwestern Stearns County's Millwood Township Sunday. The hunters left the property briefly and returned to find one of the animals missing. The group recalled seeing a small silver car with a small buck tied to the roof. They were able to track down the car and call authorities.
The deer had been marked with a colored latex glove tied to one of the legs.
Sheriff's deputies were able to make a traffic stop in Upsala and confront the man who told the officer he didn't have any luck and decided to take the deer for himself.
The 34-year-old man's name will be released once charges are filed in the case.
