Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, May 1, 2017 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2719 3rd St. North, St. Cloud, for Rev. Peter R. Holm who died after a brief battle with cancer on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at the St. Cloud Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at the Benson Funeral Home, 1111 25th Ave. S. St. Cloud and one hour prior to the service at Redeemer Lutheran Church on Monday. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at 2:30 PM on Monday, May 1, 2017 at St. John’s Cemetery, Cedar Mills Township, Meeker County, MN.

Peter Reuben Holm was given life by his Creator and was born on August 22, 1940 in Parkers Prairie, MN the child of Reuben and Clara (Nelson) Holm. On September 8, 1940 he received the gift of Holy Baptism at First Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie and became a child of God. On May 29, 1955 he was confirmed at First Lutheran Church and received the precious gift of the Lord’s life-giving body and blood. On July 4, 1964 he was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Marlene Lebakken at French Creek Lutheran Church in Ettrick, WI. Their union was blessed with three children. Finally on April 25, 2017 God blessed Pastor Holm with a holy death and took him home to rest in the arms of Jesus to await the resurrection of the dead.

Pastor Holm was raised on a farm near Parkers Prairie, MN. He served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963. After being honorably discharged he worked the family farm for a year before being called to the ministry. He studied at the California Lutheran Bible Institute, Los Angeles, CA, Waldorf Junior College, Forest City, IA and Concordia College, St. Paul, MN where he graduated in 1972 with a BA degree in Elementary Education.

In 1972 Pastor Holm began his seminary training with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod at Concordia Theological Seminary, Springfield, IL. Serving his vicarage at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Bayard, NE and St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bridgeport, NE. He graduated on May 21, 1976 with a Masters of Divinity degree from Concordia Theological Seminary and was ordained into the Pastoral Ministry at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Parkers Prairie on June 13, 1976.

Pastor Holm continued his ministerial service at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Bayard, NE; Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wells, MN; St. John Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, MN; Trinity Lutheran Church, Staples, MN; Redeemer Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN; Trinity Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, MN; and Immanuel Lutheran Church, Litchfield, MN. He has also served as Circuit Counselor of the Hutchinson Circuit of the Minnesota South District and of the Brainerd Circuit of the Minnesota North District.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene Holm of Waite Park, MN; son Eric Holm of Dickinson, ND; daughters Carolyn (James) Krueger of Medford, WI; and Nancy (Nathan) Gregg of Peoria, IL; sisters, Doris Holm of Renville, MN; and Gladys Suppes of Brooklyn Park, MN; eight grandchildren, Hannah (Ben) Neumann, Cody (Abi) Krueger, Christopher Krueger, Michael Krueger, Sylvia Holm, Harry Gregg, Clara Gregg and Myrtle Gregg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Louise Boyum and brother John Holm.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to cancer research or Prince of Peace Lutheran School.
