Rescued Trumpeter Swan Dies Of Infection
ROSEVILLE (AP) - The trumpeter swan rescued after it was found with several gunshot wounds near Waconia has died of an infection.
The Minnesota Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Roseville has been caring for the swan since Nina Salveson found it wounded in a pond on her property near Waconia in mid-May. Three gunshot pellets were found under its left wing. The bird underwent several surgeries and appeared to be getting better.
Rehabilitation Center director Phil Jenn says the swan developed a severe infection caused by the gunshot pellets and was euthanized last week.
