WHAT DOES ASPERGER'S MEAN TO YOU?

I believe you can read every book in the world on Asperger's and you're never going to find the perfect fit to describe your personal situation regarding your son or daughter. That is why it's so hard to know...Is you're child on the Autism spectrum?

THERE IS NO 'ONE SIZE FITS ALL'

I happened to stumble across the amazing sight for parents of children with Asperger's. Whether you are a new parent that has found at the age of 2, you're beautiful happy baby, has started to change, so to speak, about certain things. They are infatuated with trains...They have trouble getting over things that make them angry...They like to walk in circles. They like to take the same route to Mammaw's house. When any of these things change unexpectedly, they seem to be out of control upset. All of these things can vary from child to child.

WHAT IS CONSIDERED 'NORMAL' BEHAVIOR?

I had a professional tell me when my child was about 3 years old, that he "would never get the nuances of life."   I didn't know exactly what she meant. And I don't think there is a description for exactly who my beautiful, intelligent, wonderful, and innocent teen boy is.

MY ADMIRATION AND RESPECT FOR MY SON

He is the kind of person that has learned how to control his temper, better than most adults I know. His room is perfectly clean every single day...He loves to walk everyday. Walking seems to be a way for him to think, to dream, to feel good. He loves people. He strives everyday to make new friends, and not hurt people's feelings. I've never had to tell him to brush his teeth more than once. He's a fashion statement. He loves to wear red at Christmas time, because that's the celebratory color.

TALENT

He's an artist...he's kind. He loves animals. He loves hugs. He is quite innocent, but at the same time, he has survived a divorce, and gone from having seemingly everything, to having just enough to get by. He loves Anime, and he loves to draw his own kind of characters. he's creative and bright. There is no one like him, and just like my other children, I would not want him to be any other way.

WHAT WILL LIFE HOLD

I thought when he was younger that I would have to worry about him adjusting to the world around him, but he has surprisingly been the child that has been able to bring him self up when he's down. He has figured out brilliant ways to calm himself when he's upset. He handles situations in life better than most people I know.

If I talk about Asperger's openly with him, he refuses to acknowedge it. It is not something he wants to wrap his heart around. He fights against it. Although I would love it if he would write a book of how he handles situations to help other young people cope with the world around them.
