RAMSEY (AP) — A mother is suspected of driving drunk to pick up her child at elementary school.

Ramsey police say the 38-year-old woman told them she downed a 22-ounce beer and a shot before picking up her 6-year-old Thursday afternoon.

Ramsey Police Chief Jim Way says the school's principal noticed she appeared drunk and called police. After putting her child in a car seat, the woman allegedly tried to drive away but the principal and another employee stopped her.

Way tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports her preliminary blood-alcohol content was 0.23, nearly three times the state's legal driving limit of 0.08.

She was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and driving under the influence.

She had been convicted of misdemeanor driving while under the influence in Anoka County on September 29th.
