Dell left this world early Wednesday morning so that she could be sure to catch breakfast with her wonderful husband, a Wednesday tradition: Pancakes all around.

She was the last of five children born to Henry and Anna (Austing) Frie in St. Cloud, MN on April 3rd 1924. When you are the youngest of 5, you earn the name Quidella, meaning fifth Child. When no one can pronounce your name, you shorten it to Dell. She married the love of her life, Richard J. Westra on February 15, 1947. During her final years, she resided at the Legends of Heritage Place in Sartell, MN. She passed away peacefully with her family surrounding her.

Dell, along with her husband, Richard (Dick), was an avid bowler. Dell was a member of the 600 Club and enjoyed tournament trips with her team on many occasions. She was also in Christian Mothers, and the Daughters of Isabella. A selfless woman, Dell volunteered her cooking skills at St. Francis when called upon for funeral services and delivered Meals on Wheels to housebound people. Her greatest accomplishments were the deliveries of her five children as well as the naming of all five to follow starting with a “D” and having only 4 letters. She enjoyed crafting and firmly believed in recycling old items into new. Along with that she was an amazing cribbage player few could beat. Dell was a stay at home mom for many years until her eldest son, Dirk, was killed in Vietnam, July 4th 1968. It was then that she took up a sales position with Avon for which she spent 42 years serving folks in the Sauk Rapids and St. Cloud areas.

Dell was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; her son Dirk; and her daughter-in-law Shari. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Anna; her father, Henry; her sister, Pauline Kobienia and her three brothers, John, Bob and Lawrence Frie.

She is survived by her daughters, Dara Westra, St. Cloud, Dory Cooper (Gerald) of Hoffman Estates, Il; two sons, Duan Westra St Cloud and Dani Westra (Doris) Waite Park; 6 grandchildren Brandon, Brienne, Jaime, Christi, Jeremy and Briesen and 11 great-grandchildren Kailey, Kloe, Cameron, Giana, Ella, Brady, Caly, Cobe, Alex, Dexter and Bryce.

Dell left behind an amazing legacy of making the world a more beautiful place. She was well known for her gardening and decorating for the holidays. Her friends and family will forever have the memories of amazing celebrations, great meals and exceptional baking. She will be remembered for her quick wit, funny one liners and how she made those around her feel warm and welcomed. We are all better people because she shared her life with us.

A very special thank you to the staff of Legends and to the St. Cloud Hospital Hospice Team for the incredible care given to Dell.
